Project Yachay is aimed at improving the incomes of young and low-income mothers in the rural and marginal zones of Cusco through self-employment and dependent employment. This is established by offering the students trainings in skills that suit the labor market. Based on the market demand, Yachay is constructed as consisting of three components of technical training and personal and managerial development, as stated below:
1. Enhancement of skills and abilities, for the initiation and / or progression of their business
Young and poor mothers develop specific technical job skills and improve their social and business skills, with the aim of starting and / or improving their own business. The students are trained in different professions, depending on their capacities and interests. The courses offered are various, such as event organization, cooking, pastry making, housekeeping, catering, electrical education, sales, and babysitting. Each course includes as well a number of psychological workshops, for the personal development of the students.
2. Enhancement of skills and abilities, for entering dependent employment
Young and poor mothers develop specific technical job skills and improve their social and business skills, with the aim of entering dependent employment in various companies such as hotels, restaurants, catering companies, bakeries, and technical workshops. Each course includes as well a number of psychological workshops, for the personal development of the students.
3. Improving general employability
The Yachay project includes a counseling service to enhance job placement and employability. CEDNA maintains contacts with multiple companies within Cusco, to ease the entry to the job market of our alumni.
