In 2008-2009, CEDNA conducted a project with five children that were mentally or physically disabled.
The disabilities of the children were various: cerebral paralysis and mental retardation, chronic and acute malnutrition,
mild traumatic brain injury and genetic disability. CEDNA executed the project with the children when they were aged between 6 and 12.
The support for the children and mothers existed from:
- monitoring and support during the visits to the Clinica San Juan de Dios;
- the necessary medical tests and treatments, such as EEG and MRI scans and language and psychomotor therapy;
- provision of the right medication and advice to the mothers on how to use them;
- personalized rehabilitation therapy for the children;
- coordination with ABC PRODEIM about reimbursing (part of) the children’s treatment;
- training, procedural and financial support for the mothers in starting up a small business, to be able to provide the necessary food and healthcare for the children;
- building a safe and healthy environment for the children.
- training the mothers in healthy nutritional and hygienic habits;
Each child had its own situational diagnosis; therefore each child got their own personalized treatment. Thanks to this project, the five children improved their health and their general wellbeing.
