Target population of Yachay

For Yachay 8, 360 adolescents and mothers will be recruited from the marginal areas of Cusco. The mothers we recruit are young mothers, who support the household economy alone (due to various reasons) and are often both psychologically and physically battered. We recruit both unemployed and enterprising women, to meet all three project goals described above.

In Cusco, 16.9% of young people are unemployed, and especially the people from the marginal regions lack the resources to access proper educational systems that last longer than six months. Therefore, we offer our courses to a reduced rate, in order to make them accessible and sustainable.

Out of experience we know that of each starting group, approximately 70% will eventually graduate. With Yachay 8, we will improve the lives of 252 people directly (126 youngsters and 126 mothers) and of 753 people indirectly (the families of the trainees), which comes to a total of more than a 1000 lives that are improved through this project.
