Project Objectives Miski Wawa

The main objective of the Health project Miski Wawa is improving the nutritional status of children from the marginal zones of Cusco. The malnutrition of the children has multiple causes. For that reason, we focus on four different areas of intervention:

1. Improving the nutritional status of children aged 0 – 6

By educating the mothers of children aged 0-6, we provide them with new tools and habits that will improve the nutritional status of their children both on the short and the long term.

2. Improving the nutritional status of pregnant women

During pregnancy, proper nutrition is really important for a healthy development of the child, both physically and mentally. For this reason, we educate pregnant women about healthy nutrition, so that the children are not disadvantaged from the start of their lives.

3. Improving the economical status of the families of the children

The malnutrition of the children is partly due to a lack of economic resources to buy proper and sufficient ingredients. For this reason, mothers get training in how to start or improve their personal business, so that they can generate more income for the children’s families.

4. Creating a healthy home environment for the child

Apart from malnutrition, unhealthy hygienic habits make that children suffer from many diseases such as parasites, dehydration and diarrhea. To improve the general health of the children in our program, we include a part on ‘how to create a healthy home’.
