SPECIFIC INFORMATION

PRESENTATION.

The families of the Andean peasant communities of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba and the provinces of Cusco and Calca engaged in activities such as livestock and agriculture.
In their homes, they joined in other activities such as minor animal husbandry and orchards. Very little is dedicated to the tourism aspect, but in the area of intervention there are many archeological remains of the Inca civilization. These consist of out of the famous Inca Ruinie Machupicchu and others less known such as Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Chinchero and Moray. All of them are generating a significant flow of tourism and economic movement by the large amount of hotel, restaurant and tourism enterprises.

With these economic dynamics noted, this allows the population and communities in the region to exploit the potential of tourism and natural resources within their community.

The project aims from strengthening local capacities in management and production, contributing to improving their quality of life of people and world peace.

JUSTIFICATION

In the rural community of the provinces of Urubamba, Calca and along the Vilcanota River Basin, there is a variety of archeological complexes of great importance. For example the well Machu Picchu is world widely known and is now one of the ‘Wonders of the World’.

Around all of these archeological sites there is a huge variety of hotels, hostels, restaurants and eco tourism. All of them are classified into different categories. This also engages companies such as travel agents, tour operators, transport and marketing of handcrafts of different kinds.

60.0% of the population exist out of young men and women aged from 18 to 29 year.
Once they have left school, they have no opportunities for studying in a technical centre in the area since it has no intervention training centers linked to tourism. The youth do not have the financial means to study in the capital or in any educational institute or even at a university.  Most of the times they find another job like; porter, (people who are used as beasts of burden, carrying the luggage of tourists doing the famous Inca Trail) or they become a scrubber of gold in the jungle area, while they do not have any insurance or guarantees of work.
In some other cases they become thieves or alcoholics, not because they want it, but they do not have other opportunities.

The province of Calca and Urubamba is made up of  64.619 and 54.197 inhabitants respectively, making a total of 118.816 inhabitants and is located at respectively 50 km respectively and 60km from city of Cusco, in the same Sacred Valley between 2800 to 5500 meters above sea level.
The young population aged from 18 to 29 accounts for 35.0% of this population.

There is an interest in developing activities on one hand, contributing to the management of their natural resources, and on the other hand overcoming technical and professional training of the youth. They sustainably exploit their natural potential and enable a better income for themselves and also for their families. Therefore there is a desire to study in shorter courses  and practices in relation to (eco)tourism and better understanding of the real potential of their natural resources such as protection and biodiversity conservation of local flora and fauna, business management, crafts, textiles, information management and exchange of experiences.

PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION

The present project aims to create a "Centre for Training and Integration Labor" to provide a range of technical careers and are all geared to tourism and eco tourism under the focus of community tourism throughout the area. In addition, the office will implement labor for students once they have completed their technical careers with a safe working environment. Through this agreement with tourism businesses of the Sacred Valley, they will undertake the construction and implementation of environments to provide training in all amenities for the better development of their educational activities.
These will be created in a total of twelve technical specialties which are: eight courses in techniques for care services for tourists, two courses in craft techniques of pottery and weaving and two courses of management techniques and production of useful plants and other breeding and management of small animals. These together with a management courses of self-esteem.

We will select a group of peasant communities where potential students can come to learn different aspects of experiential touris, which they will be given lectures and workshops on topics of strengthening their organizational skills, management, creation of new attractions and tour operators with improvement from their homes. Andean food preparation, care services for tourists and hygiene, with all the families involved in this activity.

In addition, it implemented a basic infrastructure which allow the start of ecotourism activities for self-generating income, as the project is to build a tourist Eco Hostel and the formation of a travel agency that has different alternatives such as package tours: Vivencial, Agro ecological, Mystical, Archaeology, Termalístico, Gastronomic Adventure and the more traditional such as the Sacred Valley. There are a number of archaeological sites with spectacular landscapes and panoramas, and it is worth noting also that within the Sacred Valley is the new Wonder of the World "Machupicchu" which strengthens the idea of lodging houses in the rural communities who are involved in the project.
