Project Title

Malnutrition and anemia in peri-urban communities, Cusco – Peru

Objective of the project

Contribute to the reduction of the rate of chronic malnutrition and prevalence of anemia in boys and girls under 5 years of age in the Cusco Region.

Target population

  • 350 children under 5 years old at the beginning of the project
  • 350 parents
  • 20 community leaders
  • community managers

Execution Period

01 April 2018 – 01 April 2020

Intervention area

Cusco Region, specifically in the District of San Jerónimo, with the communities: Conchacalla, Pata Pata , Usphabamba, Suncco, Pillao Matao, Sucso Aucalle, Faucaypampa, Altiva Canas, Miraflores, Villa el Sol, Virgen Rosario and San Martin, Sector Anden Anden.

 

Project description

 

The promotion of the exercise of the right to food and healthy environments will be strengthened to improve the comprehensive health and nutrition of boys and girls under 5 years of age in the District of San Jerónimo; with the training of community leaders in promoting  health as a vital strategy for the empowerment of the community.

 

It is important that people not only have information about the consequences of anemia or malnutrition, but also empower them so that they themselves present their proposals to local authorities and advocate for their execution.

 

It is proposed to achieve the situation described through joint and articulated work with local governments, health personnel, together with organized civil society and community leaders, to promote effective actions and interventions to be implemented with the 2 proposals expressed in results.

 

It is expected that at the end of the project, families will improve the comprehensive health and nutrition of children under 5 years of age in the District of San Jerónimo and that it will contribute to the reduction of malnutrition and anemia in children under 5 years of age, Cusco Peru.
